There are four types that are often used or competed in, namely free style, chest type or frog type, back type, and butterfly type or dolphin type. Each type has its own characteristic movements. Come on, let’s explore together:

1. Freestyle (Freestyle/ Front Crawl)

Freestyle is a type that was first used by swimmers in prehistoric times. It is estimated that a thousand years before Christ, in Assyria the free model was used.

This model is the first style given in the swimming sports curriculum. This model is known to be efficient and effective because the swimmer’s movements are faster. However, the free type involves many parts of the body to also move.

The free type is not involved in its own movement. However, the requirements for doing so are few.

Free type working method:

You stand at the edge of the pool to go.
After driving, position your chest and face facing the water.
Move your feet as if kicking the top foot down and the bottom foot up without stopping. Keep your feet parallel to the water.

2. Chest Style or Frog Type (Breaststroke)

In the early 19th century, in several military schools the types given in swimming were breast type and free type. So that these two types are often referred to as school types. As the name suggests, this type of movement is similar to frog swimming. For relaxed conditions such as picnics, the chest style is often chosen. However, this type is also competed in swimming championships.

The technique for working on this type of frog is:

a. After racing, keep your chest and head facing the water.
b. Open both slices by kicking them out.
c. Open both hands to the sides so that the water can split so that the body can soar faster in front.
d. When the movement of the hands is finished, both legs kick the water outwards like a frog’s legs kicking water.
e. The legs and arms are moved alternately. When the legs move, the hands remain in a flat position in front. When the hands move, the feet still plate backwards.

3. Back Model (Backstroke)

It is called the back type because your back is positioned towards the water. This means that the chest and face are pushed upwards. In this position, it will be easier for you to open your eyes and breathe. As a result, swimmers cannot see the target easily, because it is behind the swimmer.

The movement of the back type is actually almost the same as the free model. But the direction is the opposite. In the free type, the chest faces the water, so in the back type, the back faces the water. The back style is slightly different from other styles. If you start the other styles above the pool, the back style starts from inside the pool.

The trick to swimming using the backstroke is:

a. Position your body supine in the water.
b. Go with that position. Next, alternately, move both hands from behind the head to the waist. To increase speed, hand movements are conditioned to pedaling.
c. Feet kick the water from top to bottom alternately.
d. Do it calmly. Not only that, the body is also advised to be flexible and not stiff.
