I am a first-year MSc student at Staffordshire University. I met a fellow student at ‘Beyond the Rift: A Conference for Innovators and Entrepreneurs’ in the UK. My friend explained his idea for a VR experience called ‘Kibbi Keeper’. I agreed to help develop a prototype by making a 3D model of the Kibbi and coding an Oculus Rift and LÖVE VR engine wrapper. As a result of this, I am working with a designer who I have never previously worked with. I am making a VR experience where people will play with the Kibbi. To provide an immersive experience, I am using an Oculus Rift and LÖVE VR with the appropriate sensors. I am based in the heart of Tamworth and the experience will be developed at the Hibernian College, Staffordshire. The experience is being developed as an independent project for my final year degree dissertation. For the experiences in this project, there is an educational element as well as a creative element. The educational component is where I am working with the LÖVE VR engine to provide the framework for the Kibbi Keeper. In an attempt to have an educational angle, I am working with the Kibbi Keeper’s characters to make them appear more child friendly. I want this Kibbi Keeper VR experience to be able to teach children the importance of friendship, family and kindness. Although the VR experience is a demonstration and not the actual VR experience, I am referring to it as Kibbi Keeper VR due to the fact that Kibbi Keeper is the name of the main character and he is an adorable raccoon. Why are you using a Kibbi? This is the first of my experiences where I am using my own characters. I am using the Kibbi because he is my son’s favourite character. The personality of Kibbi is based upon my son. His name is ‘Kibbi Keeper’. He likes to eat rainbows and play with his friends. He has an eye that changes colour. Although this is a younger boy, there will be no violence. There will only be three different types of game experiences.
