This game was released over a decade ago, during a time when there were no online gaming services, not even match-making. In 2006 there was no Steam, and this game was actually released for consoles, both the Xbox and the PS2. It also came out when there were still a large number of old game consoles and used games (even AAA games) were still common. People look at this game as a period piece that dates itself, and is wrong. The gameplay, while using the original engine, still holds up really well even today. I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I still play it regularly because I don’t like games that get updated into every new generation, nor do I like games that get cosmetic/visual upgrades but have no new content. The game graphics are great, and the addition of real shadows (as opposed to no shadows) is really a big plus. I also like how the graphics stay true to the fantasy world of the game. The game was also available for the consoles in 2006 which were huge, the original Xbox and the PS2, which made it popular among all generations. As for the negative aspects, there are a few, but nothing major. The game can get repetitive. It would be a little better if there were more quests, and they were more unique than just “kill X, and bring me this or that”, which is pretty much always the same. The graphics can be a little disappointing, but that is something that can be addressed if you just lower the quality settings or don’t have a high-powered system. In terms of the actual gameplay, there is so much content, and it’s so fun that sometimes I get sidetracked. It’s also a game that has a lot of replay value, because of all the different way you can explore it. It’s also worth mentioning that there is no online multiplayer, unlike many other newer games, and that actually makes this game stand out.
