When I received a beta copy of Ear Fun’s upcoming action JRPG, I think my first question might best have been “What took you so long?” Because why hasn’t Ear Fun been creating action JRPGs for years? More precisely, it’s obvious that Ear Fun has been pumping out mobile games (think Animal Crossing, Tactics, Peggle) for years and branching out into western RPGs on triple-A smartphone systems (Pokemon Go, Fire Emblem, Nier…), and yet has never set foot in the west with one of its own fighting franchises. I repeat: for years they’ve been creating JRPG games, why does it take them so damn long to spring a western fighting spin on it?

In a clear attempt to breathe some life into the lackluster mobile games and stop the iOS drought for the fighting game genre, Ear Fun has decided to confirm its intentions to release War in Heaven to the world. They’ve also been hard at work to rectify as much of their games’ issues as they can.

In terms of the game genre, they haven’t missed a beat. The narrative behind this one revolves around an ancient artifact, but for the moment they’re not going into any detail on it.  All they’re going with is “War takes the highest form”, and they’re threatening to have that high form be game-ending if players aren’t careful! Players start in the “Astro”-verse, a place of chaos. No real player information is present, like many War games, but players select a tag (alliance) based on color codes. The black range means they’re the heroes, while the white means they’re the enemies. There are also bandits, and they’re defined by the color pallet, too. The player can switch to any of these four entities at any time in this world.

My main motivation for writing this is to test it, to see what issues exist and whether or not PolicyKit should be the default setting. At this time, I have no plans on making PolicyKit the default — though I’m sure I’ll tackle that issue at some point, along with other things. I was aiming for a release around the beginning of April, but, as usual, things happen, and I ended up waiting until the current Monday (sorry for the delay), but once released, it will always be about one week behind the latest development

A few sections of combat have been revealed, but there is not much, and what there is remains extremely vague. The goal of any character, by the way, is “to create a pillar of victory in the world.” There’s so much fluff to this argument that it’s hard to tell whether players are meant to actually accomplish something or not. </p
