Some facts about Investi-Gator to clear up right off the bat: it’s not
a game, it’s an investigation into a murder. Being an investigation, it’s
very lacking in the fun department, which is why I’m here.
Investi-Gator was first released in 2009 to a very enthusiastic (and
fantastic) audience, where you, as a video game sleuth, were able to
follow the suspects and witnesses as they criss-crossed the city, asking
questions about the crime. I’m quite sure it actually became popular,
but I wasn’t there and frankly didn’t know it existed until later on, and
even after then, I wasn’t really ever interested. It was charming enough
and the puzzles in this game were actually quite clever, but it just
wasn’t something I wanted to do – I was far too interested in playing
more polished and enjoyable stuff.
Then, in 2016, Lazy Lion Studios brought it back, with a new name
and a fresh coat of paint. A few things didn’t change, but the entire
experience was polished up and, much like Elizabeth Parker did in Girl
Detective, absolutely knocked it out of the park. It was tense, funny
and charming, the characters were likeable, and the story got me hooked
from the very beginning. So, here’s the case…
The Big Crime
Investi-Gator: The Case of the Big Crime is a murder mystery adventure
about an unjustly executed man named Paolo Di Canio who, for whatever
reason, gets himself thrown into the town’s underground prison – aptly
named ‘the Hole’.
The crime
The setting of this game is very, very different to the last one – for
instance, rather than a modern city, you’re in a dark and dingy
underground prison in 1920s New York. Yes, we know, but wait! It gets even
better than that. If you played the first game, you’ll remember the
diabolical Ripper – you know, the serial killer from the 1950s. Well,
Meet the Ripper. This is his third encounter with the police, and this
time, he’s made sure to manage his appearances really, really well. As a
result, he’s sent to the Hole for good, but that’s where our story
begins, and how we meet the rest of our cast.

I really enjoyed this game. The atmosphere, graphics, and sound were just perfect. These are the reasons this game won me over (plus the fact that I’m quite an introvert). If you’re an introvert or shy like I am, the ghosts tend to scare you off and you won’t be bothered to search for doors. In fact, you’ll be running away from the place. The story:
